Eleazar Trey Vasquez III. Ph.D.

Trey Vasquez recently joined the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas, where his scholarship sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, assistive technology, and evidence-based instructional practice for students with disabilities in STEM content areas. His research examines how emerging AI tools can be responsibly integrated into special education classrooms — expanding access, supporting individualized learning, and equipping practitioners with the knowledge to make sound, data-informed decisions.

A central thread in his work involves translating complex research findings into practical frameworks educators can actually use. He is currently involved with the National CIDDL.org center on professional learning initiatives connecting AI innovation to disability-inclusive education. His interests also extend to academic writing support, instructional design, and the responsible use of AI in higher education research.

Outside the lab, Trey brings a pragmatic sensibility to every question — a reminder that behind every dataset is a student whose trajectory depends on the quality of the decisions adults make on their behalf.

He welcomes connections with Kansas CEC members working across the P-20 pipeline.Reach him at [email protected] or visit https://specialedu.ku.edu/people/eleazar-vasquez
